Thomas Herbst is a partner at ZEILER, specialized in international arbitration and commercial litigation. His practice focuses on energy and construction matters as well as international sales disputes.
He represents and advises clients in disputes, often with an international angle and regularly acts as secretary to the arbitral tribunal and sits as arbitrator. Thomas has been involved in numerous proceedings, governed by a variety of jurisdictions and rules (including ICC, LCIA, ICSID, VIAC and UNCITRAL). He has handled a wide range of matters, among them, corporate, post-M&A, and trust disputes and cases arising from the (renewable) energy, construction, finance, and reinsurance sectors.
Thomas regularly publishes academic work, recently co-authoring the newest edition of a commentary on Austrian arbitration law, and speaks at conferences in his field of practice. Moreover, he is an external lecturer of Austrian private business law at the University of Applied Science Vienna (FH BFI Wien), an active member of the Young Austrian Arbitration Practitioners (YAAP) association, and a former coach of the University of Vienna’s successful team at the Willem C. Vis Commercial Arbitration Moot (2021-2023).
He was admitted to the Austrian bar in 2020 and is a graduate of the University of Vienna (Mag. iur. 2012) with a summer school diploma in European Studies (2009) and an additional diploma in Law of International Relations.
